Inclusive education is about every student and not just for those with special needs.

Inclusion needs to be continually taught as we teach and role-model it.

What does that mean for teachers?

We help all when we change our aim. Whatever works for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) works for all students. See benefits of inclusive education: https://inclusiveschools.org/together-we-learn-better-inclusive-schools-benefit-all-children/

Shelley Moore uses a bowling analogy to describe inclusive education.

In her words, “In order to knock down the most pins in one shot, (we) need to aim for the pins that are hardest to hit.” Check out the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYtUlU8MjlY

Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

How do we practically target the ‘hardest student’ - those with learning difficulties? UDL might be the solution.

UDL is an evidence-based framework to improve and optimize teaching and learning. Broadly, UDL involves 3 networks (see diagram below). For more information on the UDL guidelines, refer to: http://udlguidelines.cast.org/
