Inclusion begins with 'I'

EMPATHY + MINDSET (UNLEARN + RELEARN)

Inclusion needs a heart of empathy but that is not enough. Inclusion is also a growth mindset that we need to choose.

To achieve that mind set, we need to firstly unlearn—this requires us to be open to new information and alternative viewpoints. It might mean an examination of our hidden biasness or assumptions of student learning that might not be helpful.

Then with the self-awareness and new information, we need to relearn — replace the old information and internalise new learning that will show in our actions to embrace diversity.
