Angela Duckworth introduces grit: https://www.ted.com/talks/angela_lee_duckworth_grit_the_power_of_passion_and_perseverance
The fine difference between grit and resilience lies in the involvement of ’passion’.
Different from the ability to ’fight back’, passion refers to an enduring interest that one chooses to commit to over a long period of time even in the face of sacrifices.
What can we do to grow ‘gritty’ students?
Discuss their goals and purpose in life. Share your passions.
Share stories of ‘gritty’ people or through lesson materials; get them to interview people with grit.
Teach grit and encourage them to act gritty (not about becoming gritty), talk about what’s the hard part for them and help them overcome.
Teach them to develop their passions instead of find it. See article on new findings from researchers in Singapore. https://qz.com/1314088/find-your-passion-is-bad-advice-say-yale-and-stanford-psychologists/
